Eddie Trunk on Ace

Halloween Bash 2007 with Ace Frehley recap and review.
From: Eddie Trunk
11/2/07: Sorry for the late report, still recovering and catching up from the big show Wed night. Everything went well and the response to the event and Ace's set has all been positive.
ImageThe night started with comics Jim Norton, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson joining me on stage to judge the costume contest, won by Ace "Peely". There was a slight delay in Ace getting on stage due to some minor technical issues, but he finally got on around 10PM. Ace's new band consists of bassist Anthony Esposito (Lynch Mob) and drummer/vocalist Scott Coogan (Brides Of Destruction). Rythmn guitar was handled by Derek. Ace was in great form, healthy, sober and playing and singing great. Many said this was one of the best solo performances they have ever seen from him and I agree. The difference being he is totally sober really for one of the first times ever on stage. The band also got rave reviews with many commenting on Coogan and not only his playing, but singing as well. He took lead on a few songs as did bassist Esposito, who did a great job on "Strange Ways". As for the set list itself it really was killer, with a mix of solo and Kiss stuff, plus some covers. The show opened with Rip It Out and went right into Hard Times, that also had a section of the "I Want You" solo. The '78 album also was represented with Snowblind and NY Groove with a guest appearance from drummer Anton Fig. Other solo stuff included Rock Soldiers, Breakout and Shot Full Of Rock. Kiss stuff features the previous mentioned Strange Ways and Hard Times, plus a surprise version of Love Gun sang by Coogan, Deuce, Parasite and show closer Cold Gin. There was also a medley/jam featuring a few Zep and AC/DC classics. The set was about 90 minutes and loud as hell, as it should be! Ace was really excited to be back on stage and expressed this to the sell out crowd many times. As I said when I introed him, let's hope this ends up being his launch into full active status again. He really is in the best shape I have ever seen him in over the 20 years we have been friends. My thanks to all who came out to this event. We had people from all over the world attend and the buzz was awesome.
